Duties

• Reporting to the Vice President of Student Affairs and Dean of Students, serve as a member of the Division of Student Affairs Senior Leadership Team.
• Supervise the Offices of Housing and Residential/Commuter Life and Student Engagement (Student Activities & Organizations, New Student Orientation, and First-Year Experience).
• Coordinate division-wide assessment and other data collection and reporting.
• Provide direct support and case management to students with academic and personal concerns.
• Identify, analyze, and determine appropriate methods of addressing student retention challenges.
• Serve on the University’s CARE Team, Student Success Committee, Enrollment Management Work Group, University Assessment Committee, and Title IX Team, as well as represent the Division of Student Affairs on other committees and task forces as needed.

Director of Student Conduct, December 2016-September 2021

University of New England, Biddeford, ME

Accomplishments

• Transformed the sanctioning for alcohol and marijuana-related student conduct violations from a punitive and fine-based model to one focused on online learning modules and motivational interviewing techniques promoting healthy decision-making around substance use.  
• Founded and chaired the University Wellness and Prevention Committee of faculty, students, and staff from Title IX, Counseling Center, Health and Wellness, Residence Life, and Campus Recreation offices to coordinate wellness and prevention programs (ex. sexual assault, substance abuse, suicide).
• Transitioned the University’s Behavioral Risk Assessment Committee to an electronic records process to better track and monitor individual student concerns.  

Duties

• Functioned as the University’s chief disciplinary officer, overseeing all aspects of student conduct policy and process for the entire University. Regularly confer with University legal counsel on legal and policy matters.
• Supervised the Director of Housing and Residential/Commuter Life (beginning July 2018).
• Served on the Division of Student Affairs Leadership Team, the University’s Behavioral Risk Assessment Committee, Title IX Team, and Bias Incident Response Team.
• Co-advised the Undergraduate Student Government from January 2017 to December 2018.

Accomplishments

• Oversaw a reorganization of the department and a successful search for a new Director of Housing and Residential/Commuter Life.

• In addition to my role as Director of Student Conduct, during this period, I served as the Interim Director of the Office of Housing and Residential/Commuter Life.
• Supervised the Associate and Assistant Directors and served as the primary on-call administrator for residence hall concerns.

Director of Student Development and Engagement, April 2005-June 2013

Southern Maine Community College, South Portland, ME

Accomplishments

• In 2008, created the Center for Student Involvement and Leadership, including developing a plan for the Center’s budget, physical office space, student staff, and Civic Engagement Coordinator position. Integrated the student government, student newspaper, and Phi Theta Kappa honor society into the Center to create a one-stop location for students interested in student organizations, campus activities, leadership development, and civic engagement.
• Increased student engagement in student organizations, overseeing policy, procedure, and advertising efforts, which resulted in the growth of student organizations from 4 to over 30. Also enhanced the number, frequency, and type of student activities and campus events to engage both residential and commuter students.
• Overhauled the new student orientation program to be both interactive and informative. Created the Orientation and Welcome Leader position to incorporate student leaders into the orientation process.

Duties

• Managed the College’s Center for Student Involvement and Leadership, including supervising the Civic Engagement Coordinator and student Staff Assistant positions.
• Served as a resource for student organizations regarding events, College policies, and financial guidelines.
• Administered budgeting and expenditures for over $250,000 annually of all Student Activity Fee and other student organization funds.
• Directed all aspects of New Student Orientation, including hiring and training Orientation and Welcome Leaders, and chairing the College’s Orientation Committee.
• Provided Career Counseling and Transfer Advising, and co-coordinated annual transfer fair and job fair until December 2008, when a dedicated full-time position was created to oversee these areas.

Duties

• Assisted students with all areas of academic advising.
• Served as the College’s Certifying Official for the Veterans Administration and as a liaison for the College in all matters regarding services for veterans.

Employment Counselor, August 2002-August 2003

Maine Veterans’ Workforce Investment Program, Training Resource Center, Portland, ME

Duties

• Counseled veterans in the areas of employment and career development, and assisted them in developing an individualized career training plan.
• Provided outreach to veterans around the state by developing and maintaining the Veterans’ Workforce Investment program website and holding office hours at other Maine Career Center locations.

Advisor/International Student Services Coordinator, June 2001- June 2002

Center for Advising and Retention, Dean College, Franklin, MA

Duties

• Advised students in several majors on degree requirements, course selection, and registration, and provided career counseling and transfer advising.
• Counseled students on academic probation to help them improve their grades and develop better time management strategies, study habits, and life skills.
• Served as advisor to International Students on immigration regulations, cultural adjustment, and extracurricular activities, and coordinated International Student Orientation and International Education Week.
